Tabor Tech TIPs Vol. 4 - Google Docs

This past week was Google's 19th Birthday. Happy Birthday Google! Do you remember the exclamation mark in Google's Logo? Besides not having to shout GOOGLE! anymore, their logo has gone through minor changes over the past 19 years. In contrast, the internet has brought significant change, redefining and transforming our work, education, and daily lives. I like to think of the time we are in now as the digital wild west as we continue to navigate through the endless stream of information. For this weeks Tech TIPs here are a few small bites focused on Google Docs.

Voice Typing is speech to text technology built right into Google Docs. This is great for students who find it easier to dictate rather than type.

The Explore tool allows you to search the internet and your drive without having to leave the document you are working on. It also has a great citation tool built in.

Add-Ons

For those of you experienced with Google Drive here are some more advanced tips focused on Add-Ons.

GOOGLE NEWS: NEW Backup and Synch & Drive File Stream

Drive File Stream is replacing the old desktop drive app. If you use the old Google Drive desktop app it will no longer be supported beginning on December 11th, 2017, and it will shut down completely on March 12th, 2018.

Back up and Synch streamlines your drive back up and photo back up. You can also back up files and pictures from your computer with this as well. On a Tabor device you can download these by going to the self service app on your Mac and find these applications to download.

TechCrunch explains these changes well.
