YouTube is a really valuable tool in education but there are also some amazing alternatives to youtube that students and teachers should keep on their list of Video Sites to explore.

1. WatchKnowLearn does not itself host videos but serves as a library for links to excellent educational videos that have been selected by educators. They do a great job in organizing their recommended content by indexing 50,000 educational videos, and placing them into a directory of over 5,000 categories.

2. Similar to WatchKnowLearn, edutube.org organizes video into categories and grade level. They also have longer documentaries and educational movies.

3. Teachertube.com is an educational video community for teachers, parents and students focused on instructional video’s. It is a site to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers. As well, it is a site where teachers can post videos or use video designed for students to view in order to learn a concept or skill.

4. UntamedScience is a high-energy and enthusiastic group of teachers, scientist and filmmakers who have come together to make high-quality videos about science. They also have integrated lesson plans for their content, making it as easy as possible for teachers to use the site in their classrooms.

5. Explore.org is a wonderful sight focused on extraordinary causes. They showcase individuals who have dedicated their lives to improving the human condition. There is also a great live-cam tab with a ton of live cams of animals, sunsets, coral, etc…across the world. As your kids come to school in the morning and begin to get settled put a live cam on of something that they can make a quick observation of every morning. They will be guaranteed engaged and excited to see what’s new.

6. CNN Student News is a ten-minute, commercial-free, daily news program designed for middle and high school classes. It is produced by the journalists at CNN. Great way to start your school day or a current events lesson.

7. Schooltube is a video monitored sharing site specific to teachers and students. It creates a safe environment for video sharing.

8. Vimeo is similar to youtube but has higher quality videos and less clutter than youtube. One of the best features is no adds.

9. Howstuffworks has been around for a long time and have a great website packed with educational videos of unbiased, easy-to-understand answers and explanations of how the world actually works.
